# Product Alerts and Flags: Avoid Sourcing Risks on Amazon

> Seller Aim automatically flags products with sourcing risks including hazmat, IP complaints, meltable, fragile, adult content, and generic brand issues.

Before committing to inventory, you need to know what you're walking into. Seller Aim's alerts and flags system automatically surfaces known risks for any product you're researching — helping you avoid listings that could get your account flagged, trigger a suspension, or simply result in financial losses you could have seen coming. These signals appear instantly as you browse, so you can make smarter sourcing decisions without slowing down your workflow.

## Types of Alerts

Every flag represents a distinct category of risk. Understanding what each one means — and how seriously to take it — is the foundation of responsible sourcing on Amazon.

| Flag                            | What It Means                                                                                                                                                                                                                                |
| ------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| 🔒 **Restricted** | This product or brand is gated on your seller account. You'll need to apply for approval before listing, and approval is not guaranteed. |
| ☢️ **Hazmat / Dangerous Goods** | The product is regulated as a hazardous material — common examples include lithium batteries, aerosols, flammable liquids, and certain cleaning chemicals. FBA acceptance, storage, and shipping are all subject to additional requirements. |
| ⚠️ **IP Alert** | Intellectual property complaints have been filed against this ASIN. Brands or rights-holders have taken action against third-party sellers listing this product. See the [IP Alerts in Detail](#ip-alerts-in-detail) section below. |
| 🌡️ **Meltable** | This product is classified as meltable — meaning it can deteriorate in transit during warm months. Amazon restricts meltable items from FBA warehouses between approximately April and October each year. |
| 📦 **Fragile** | The item requires special packaging and prep to meet Amazon's standards. Fragile goods increase prep time, cost, and the risk of receiving customer complaints or removals due to damage. |
| 🔞 **Adult Product** | This is an age-restricted or adult-category item. Listings for adult products are subject to additional limitations, including restricted advertising and suppressed visibility in standard search results. |
| 🏷️ **Generic Brand** | The product carries no recognized brand (or is listed under "Generic"). Generic listings can attract ungating hurdles and are more susceptible to listing hijacking or suppression. |
| 📏 **Oversize** | The item falls into Amazon's oversize tier. Oversize products incur significantly higher FBA fulfillment and storage fees, which must be factored into your profitability calculations. |

## How Alerts Appear

Seller Aim surfaces flags directly inside the product panel as you browse Amazon, so you never have to leave the page to check for risks.

**Icon badges and color coding:** Each alert type is represented by a color-coded badge displayed prominently at the top of the product analysis panel. Red badges indicate high-severity risks (Restricted, IP Alert, Hazmat), amber badges indicate caution-level risks (Meltable, Fragile, Adult Product), and grey badges indicate informational flags (Generic Brand, Oversize).

**Multiple flags on one product:** When a product triggers more than one flag, all active badges are displayed together. A product showing both a **Hazmat** and a **Restricted** badge, for example, requires you to clear two separate hurdles before you can sell it — these are independent issues and should each be evaluated on their own merits. As a general rule, the more flags a product carries, the higher the combined sourcing risk.

<Note>
  Flags are shown for the ASIN you're currently viewing. Variations (different sizes, colors, or quantities) may carry different flags — always check each child ASIN individually if you're considering multiple variants.

## IP Alerts in Detail

An IP Alert means that a brand, rights-holder, or their legal representative has filed intellectual property complaints — such as trademark, copyright, or patent claims — against third-party sellers listing this ASIN on Amazon. This is not a hypothetical risk; it means complaints have already been acted upon in the past.

**Why IP-alerted products deserve extreme caution:** Amazon takes IP complaints seriously. A single upheld complaint can result in listing removal, account health warnings, or in repeat cases, suspension. Unlike a restriction that can be cleared by meeting eligibility criteria, IP complaints are initiated by an external party and can be filed again at any time — even if you source the product legitimately.

**How frequently IP alerts are updated:** Seller Aim's IP alert data is refreshed regularly to reflect newly filed complaints and resolved cases. However, because new complaints can be filed at any time, the absence of an IP alert at the time of your research does not guarantee the product will remain complaint-free.

<Warning>
  IP alert data provided by Seller Aim is a **risk signal only** and does not constitute legal advice. The presence of an IP alert does not automatically mean you cannot sell a product, and its absence does not mean you are legally protected. If you have questions about your rights to sell a specific product, consult a qualified legal professional familiar with Amazon marketplace law and intellectual property.

## Using Flags in Your Workflow

Alerts and flags are most powerful when you build them into your sourcing process as an early filter — not an afterthought.

**Flags as a quick pre-screen:** Before running profitability calculations or digging into sales rank history, glance at the flag badges. If a product shows a Restricted or IP Alert badge, you can decide in seconds whether it's worth continuing your research. This saves time at scale, especially when scanning bulk sourcing lists.

**Setting personal sourcing rules:** Many experienced sellers establish hard rules based on flags — for example:

* *"Never source meltable products"* — avoids seasonal FBA storage headaches entirely
* *"Skip all IP-alerted ASINs"* — reduces account health risk
* *"Flag oversize items for manual review"* — ensures fees are always recalculated before buying

Seller Aim's flags give you the raw signal; your sourcing rules define how you act on it. Over time, your rules become a consistent filter that removes guesswork from your buying decisions.

**Flags in bulk results:** Alerts don't only appear when you view a single product. When you use the bulk restriction checker to scan a list of ASINs, applicable flags are shown alongside restriction status for each product in the results. This means you can screen an entire sourcing list for hazmat items, IP alerts, and meltable flags in one pass — without opening each product individually.

<Tip>
  Use flags as your **first-pass filter** before any other analysis. Sort or scan your sourcing list for red-badge flags first, remove or defer those products, then run profitability and demand analysis only on the clean remainder. This approach keeps your research focused on genuinely actionable opportunities.
